Understanding About Premium Tanks

Every nation has a Premium tank, and they may be in the category of light, medium and heavy tank. Currently there are no premium tanks for tank destroyers, and SPG.

Premium tanks don't need to be researched. You just buy them with gold. There's also nothing to research on a premium tank. It automatically achieves Elite Status the moment you buy it. But everything is stock and nothing is upgradeable. The suspension, engine, radio, turret, gun are all fixed (non upgradeable). You can however install optional modules just like any other tank.

Some premium tanks are quite expensive, and others not so. Prices range from 750 gold for the American T2 light tank (tier 2 light) at the cheapest, and goes up to 12,500 gold for the priciest Lowe (tier 8 heavy).

Given that they are paid with gold, not all premium tanks perform as well in battle. Because the gun is non-upgradeable, its usually a smaller caliber for a tank in its class. Take the Churchill for example. Its a tier 5 heavy tank, with a 57mm gun. Compared against the same class, a KV has a 76mm stock gun, upgradeable to a 107mm. Some premium tanks however come with heavier armor, but a thick armor with poor gun does not compensate for the thicker armor.

The real value of a premium tank is that premium tanks earn you much more in credits and experience. The Type 59, KV-5 and Lowe are known in their roles as money makers and experience earners. And that is probably the best reason for getting a premium tank - to quickly fill up your credits or to use it to grind for experience. The experience gained on a premium tank however has to be converted to free experience in order for it to be usable on other vehicles. It will again cost you gold to convert to free experience.

Some premium tanks cannot be bought. These are very special tanks that are given or awarded by the developer to certain players for certain special reasons. The American M4A2E4 medium tank (tier V) for example was given as a gift to all beta testers. And the Mk VII Tetarch (Soviet tier 2 light) was a New Year present for 2012. These tanks are earned (or gifted) and cannot be obtained in any other way.

What happens when you sell a premium tank? Its the same as with any other purchase. You receive credits with the price is halved of its original purchase price. So let's say you buy a Churchill for 1500 gold. Normally 1500 gold will get you 600,000 credits. When you sell the tank, you'd receive 300,000 credits (half price).
